A hi-fi room to optimize

For this project, the room in question was reverberant and prevented optimal listening. It could be heard very well “by ear” without taking measurements. Aware of this problem, our client wanted to optimize the acoustics of his room.

A great hi-fi enthusiast, his system was very interesting to listen to. However, it lacked clarity, depth and intelligibility. Various elements were attributable to this sound problem:

  • A large room volume
  • Few furniture and decorative elements in the room

As an avid reader of specialized journals in the field of high-fidelity, our client had heard about us several times. The various tests with supporting measurements convinced him to call us to carry out this project to optimize his hi-fi room.

A solution: decorative wall acoustic panels

Acoustic optimization of a hi-fi room

We advised to position SMAD wall acoustic panels exclusive reference behind the speakers. In addition, we have added poly-cylindrical SPAD diffusers in the middle of these panels.

We also advised to add acoustic panels in front of the loudspeakers in order to treat the primary reflections. These last ones, white, are of a perfect discretion and a formidable effectiveness.

The acoustic panels allowed our client to correct the major defects of his room. They allowed to avoid too important echoes. Acoustic sound diffusers, on the other hand, allowed for a better redistribution of energy in the room. Concretely, they gave a “live” side to the sound by redesigning the sound stage.

In conclusion, our client was very satisfied with the various recommendations suggested. The listening experience has clearly gained in clarity and precision. Similarly, our client found the panels very aesthetic, blending perfectly with the rest of his room.
